BAMCC supporting young adventurer Oli Purkis

The club will have a stand at this weekend’s Autofest show at TECA in Aberdeen, and I’m delighted that Joe and Oli Purkis will be joining us.

Many of you will know Joe from our D2D event — he’s our rescue guy. His big Wildcat machine and trailer have hauled stranded bikes out of forests across Aberdeenshire, and he’s never taken a penny for it. This weekend gives us a great chance to return the favour and support Oli and Joe.

Oli, meanwhile, is about to embark on a truly momentous journey: an attempt to become the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the globe on a motorcycle. Not only is this a personal challenge but Oli aims to raise money for Save The Children.

When he turns 17 years old, Oli is preparing for something most people wouldn’t attempt in a lifetime, a motorcycle ride with his father across 4 continents and 20 countries, with the aim of becoming the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe by motorbike.Oli turns 18 during the challenge, making this more than an endurance ride. It’s a coming-of-age journey on a global scale, and one that’s set to be documented every step of the way.

Who Is Oli?

Oli is a young adventurer from Scotland with a clear goal: to ride around the world and break the Guinness World Record for the youngest person to do so on a motorcycle.The route spans 4 continents, 20 countries, and thousands of miles of varied terrain from European highways to remote stretches across Central Asia, Australasia, and the Americas. The logistics alone are a serious undertaking, never mind the physical and mental demands of the ride itself.Alongside the record attempt, Oli is promoting and fund raising for the charity Save the Children through a JustGiving campaign, and the entire journey will be captured as a documentary-style project.
