What is Trials?
Motorcycle Trials is a sport all about skill, balance, and control. Riders carefully navigate natural obstacles like rocky streams, grassy hills, steep climbs, and boulder sections.
It's not about how fast you ride—it's about precision and keeping your feet up, as each mistake means penalty points.
Observers watch riders closely at each section to record their performance, with the lowest score winning the event.
Affordable & Accessible
Trials is one of the most affordable motorcycle sports, making it a fantastic entry point for new riders.
Bikes range from around £500 second-hand up to £7,000+ for new models, and entry fees for events are typically around £20.
Events usually feature multiple routes catering to different skill levels, so every rider can enjoy a challenging but fun day out.
Specialised Bikes
Trials motorcycles are uniquely designed for this sport, featuring:
• Low gearing and responsive engines (125cc–320cc; 250cc is most common)
• Soft, grippy tyres providing maximum traction
• Standing riding position for greater control and manoeuvrability
• Road-legal options available, though most events happen entirely off-road
