Grampian Motorcycle Convention

The Grampian Motorcycle Convention is without a doubt the North East's biggest day out for bikers and non bikers alike regularly drawing a crowd of over 5000 each year. The day consists of such a diverse range of biking attractions that there really is something to please everyone. From the oldest bikes to the latest "pocket rockets"  and attracting acts as diverse as Mattie Griffin, Steve Colley, Squibb Freestyle Team and The Purple Helmets to name but a few. The Convention does try to promote the sporting elements of motorcycling by running a programme of racing events which has featured road racing, supermotos, enduros and quads. However the star attraction has always been, and will always be the Moped Mayhem racing. With up to fifty bikes on track mayhem is almost inevitable. Never have 30mph limited mopeds been so much fun.

The Bon Accord Club in conjunction with the Grampian Transport Museum are responsible for the organisation of this great day out. This is no small undertaking and planning for the next convention usually starts in the week after the last one! Acts and guests must be booked well in advance and an arena programme worked out with new ideas, (such as the big screen) incorporated into the schedule. The trade and club stands have to be filled and arranging the caterers are a must so that no-one has to go hungry. The publicity, advertising, roadside banners and website all have to be designed and sent out to meet printing deadlines. The club stand has to be organised with personnel and bikes while club members find themselves helping out on the day with a range of diverse jobs such as track marshall, cameraman, scrutineer, clerk of the course, celebrity minder, track builder, event secretary and so on. There are very few motorcycle clubs who could organise an event on this scale and Bon Accord are proud to have a dedicated band of members without whom we simply couldn't put on this event.

Never lose sight of the fact though that the Convention is enormous fun for everyone involved and is always a great day. The club members have some of the best seats in the house, right next to the action, a privilege available to only a very select few. If you would like to see what we are making all the fuss about why not have a look on our dedicated Convention website which can be found at www.grampianmotorcycleconvention.com
